Senior Living FAQs
Do you have questions about senior living at Wyndmoor of Portage? Check out some of our most frequently asked questions.
How do I know if my loved one needs assisted living?
Determining if your loved one may benefit from assisted living can feel overwhelming, but there are some common signs that can help guide your decision. If they are experiencing challenges with daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning, bathing, or managing their medications, assisted living may offer the support they need to maintain their independence and well-being.
Look for signs of isolation or loneliness as well, as many seniors thrive in a social environment with activities and opportunities for engagement. Increased forgetfulness, frequent falls, or noticeable weight loss are also indicators that additional support might be beneficial.
Do you provide housing for the Medicaid waiver?
Yes, we do! The Wyndmoor of Portage is Medicaid certified. We accept both Medicaid waiver and private pay applicants, so please feel free to contact us to learn more. We are more than happy to answer any questions you might have.
What is Indiana’s Assisted Living Waiver Program and how do I apply?
Indiana’s Medicaid Waiver Program helps eligible Indiana residents with Medicaid pay for assisted living services. Applicants need to meet certain eligibility requirements. To determine if you or your loved one can receive waiver services in conjunction with Medicaid, contact CoAction. Additional information on Indiana’s Medicaid Waiver Program and paying for assisted living can be found on our How to Pay page.
Is Wyndmoor of Portage a pet-friendly community?
Yes, we welcome pets that are under 30 pounds. Additionally, all pets must be up to date on their current vaccinations and residents must be able to independently attend to the pet’s needs.
Do you allow spouses, partners, or siblings to live together in the same room?
Yes! We do allow residents to share a room with their loved ones. Every room can accommodate a second bed if the residents would like one as well.
Can family members visit?
Yes! Family members are encouraged to visit their loved ones and also to take part in activities and community events. Staying connected with loved ones is important for residents’ emotional well-being and their quality of life.
Does your facility allow residents to smoke?
Yes! While we do allow smoking, it must be done outside and at least 8 feet or more from the building. Residents must also turn in their cigarettes to the nursing staff and abide by our facility’s smoking schedule.
Do you provide transportation to medical appointments?
We will do our very best to accommodate your or your loved ones’ transportation needs. We do provide transportation depending on our schedule and the needs of our other residents.
